A group of boys and girls aged seven to fourteen experiences a brief summer of dreams—a world without adults. Their parents have left, leaving them alone in a huge house in the middle of a strictly guarded luxury neighborhood. They spend their days splashing in the pool, playing video games, and experimenting with first loves. Privileged children for whom simply voicing a wish makes Nesquik miraculously appear on the table. But beneath the shiny surface lies boredom. A quiet whirlpool slowly pulling everything in. Beyond the perfect gardens, enormous villas, and checkered school uniforms, it is as if no real life exists. Their greatest amusement becomes breaking into neighbors’ houses. At first out of curiosity, then out of a craving for excitement. Innocent expeditions to explore other worlds turn into minor acts of vandalism. But it’s no problem. After all, someone always pays the bills.
